Unhappy with your Medicare Advantage Plan?

If you recently switched to a new Medicare Advantage plan during fall open enrollment period, or decided to keep the same plan, and you are unhappy with that decision already, you have an option now. This especially holds true if the plan you had last year has changed for the worse, or if you are new to your plan and you are having trouble finding primary doctors or specialists within your network. Either way, if you are not happy with your Medicare coverage, there is good news!  You do not need to be stuck with it all year. That is because Medicare Advantage plans have its own specific open enrollment period that runs from January 1, 2021 through March 31, 2021. During this time, if you are in a Medicare Advantage Plan and want to change your Medicare plan, you can do one of the followings:

1. Switch to a different Medicare Advantage Plan with or without drug coverage
2. Go back to Original Medicare and, if needed, also join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan

If you switch Medicare Advantage Plans or go back to Original Medicare with or without a Medicare drug plan, your new coverage will start the first day of the month after your new plan gets your request for coverage. Keep in mind, if you go back to Original Medicare now, you may not be able to buy a Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) policy. If you want to move to another Medicare Advantage plan, research it carefully.  Read up on its costs, the benefits it provides, and the coverage it offers for your specific medications. Switching plans could be a smart decision that saves you money on healthcare and spares you a world of stress during this already trying year, so be sure to get it right.
