Medicare Supplement Plans by Blue Shield

Medicare Supplement Plan (Medigap) is health insurance sold by private insurance companies to fill the gaps in Original Medicare coverage (Medicare Part A & B). Medicare Supplement Plan helps some of the health care costs that the Original Medicare Plan does not cover. If you are in the Original Medicare with a Medigap policy, then Medicare and your Medigap policy will each pay its share of covered health care costs.  Insurance companies can only sell you a standardized Medigap policy, and they must follow Federal and state laws. Blue Shield offers five Medicare Supplement plans, Plan A, Plan F Extra, Plan N, Plan G, Plan G Extra in California.

Plan A

This plan is the basic affordable Medicare Supplement plan which includes coverage for Medicare Part A and Part B copayments and coinsurance. This plan does not cover skilled nursing facility coinsurance, Part A deductible, and foreign travel emergency.

Plan F Extra

Plan F Extra offers the most extensive coverage including coverage for Medicare Part A and Part B deductibles, copayments and coinsurance, plus:

• Skilled nursing facility care
• Foreign travel emergencies
• 100% coverage of Medicare Part B excess charges
• Hearing Aid benefits
• Personal Emergency Response System (PERS)
• Vision benefits

Plan F Extra is only available to applicants who attain age 65 or first become eligible for Medicare benefits due to disability before January 1, 2020.

Plan N

 This plan includes coverage for Medicare Part A deductibles, copayments and coinsurance, and it also covers:

• Medicare Part B Medical expenses that you will be responsible for paying:
• Up to $20 copayment for some office visits.
• Up to $50 copayment for visits to the emergency room.
• Skilled nursing facility care
• Foreign travel emergencies.

 Plan G

 This plan offers more benefits than Plan A and Plan N. Plan G includes coverage for Medicare Part A deductibles, Medicare Part A and Part B copayments and coinsurance, plus:

• Skilled nursing facility care
• Foreign travel emergencies
• 100% coverage of Medicare Part B excess charges

 Plan G Extra

This plan offers everything our regular Plan G offers plus a few additional benefits, including:

• Hearing aid benefits
• Vision benefits
• Physician consultation benefits.
• Over the counter (OTC) items benefit
